Why You Don’t Have Time

You’re Inundated.  Flooded.  It’s Too Much.  You Don’t Have Time.

I’ll admit it too, I can think of 100 other things I’d be better off doing than email at any given moment and when I have an overflowing Inbox, there’s always that little temptation to “Select All” and hit delete.

But the bigger question is WHY is it that are we always grappling with this problem of having too much to do and not enough time?

Is it Over-Committing?  Lack of Discipline?  Being Out of Balance?

Do you not have time to Wonder Why at this moment?

Before you delete this and get back to work, think about the fact that this pattern of being too busy may be taking over your life.

If you’re irritated or bothered by taking a few minutes to explore something that may help you, you’re probably in a non-stop cycle of being busy over a list of things-to-do that you may not even really enjoy.

You’re not alone.  Trust me, I’ve been there.  Why do you think I teach yoga now?
The challenge is that all of our systems and society in general perpetuate this cycle.

So how do we stop this cycle?
First Be Aware, Be Mindful
Most people wait until they hit rock bottom and feel like their life is falling apart, before they seek solutions.   This is an option.  Creating awareness is something we can do preventatively, practicing every day – or  – we can wait until we crash and hit bottom to receive the wake-up call.  Both are equally valid.  One may even be more impactful than the other!

When we have awareness and realize that we’re stuck in old patterns or activities or relationships that don’t serve us, only then can we change.

Then, PRACTICE
Practicing doesn’t need to take hours.  In fact, taking a few minutes each day or even one second to be present, to be mindful, to be really aware, can create enormous change.

Practice when you eat.  When you chew your food, are you really tasting it?
Practice when you are listening to someone talk.  Are you really listening to them? Or are you thinking about your response?
Practice when you drive.  Can you drive to the grocery store and back without picking up your cell phone once?

I know you’re busy. Make time to make the conscious choice to take time to be AWARE, for Mindfulness, for Doing One Thing today and each day that improves your life.
